Life Adventures.

You may have noticed that things have been a little quiet around here for a while. Cat has been focusing on what really matters most at the end of the day - family. Cat’s Mum hadn’t been well for a long time and it’s important to her to spend valuable time supporting those she loves. Life is too short to have regrets. Now she is ready to get back to her passion - painting. Thank you to those of you who have waited patiently, you will find new works arriving soon.

Cat grew up in country Victoria but has lived most of her life in suburbia and dreams of one day living in a breezy house near the beach - that’s where a lot of her inspiration is drawn from.  She loves to walk her Mini Dachshund Lily, always exploring and filling her mind with curiosity and wonder about the places she visits.  She describes her work as - contemporary scapes and people drawn from memories, feelings and subconscious recall.

Cat has studied fine art, fashion design, sales and management and has worked in wholesale apparel design for over 20 years. She’s a wife, mother, daughter and sister, and family is the most precious thing in the world to her.

Cat paints mostly in acrylic on canvas, occasionally mixed media and sometimes on paper.

She has been exploring alternate painting styles and techniques for over a decade and follows her heart to paint what brings her joy.

She loves to use colour, intuitive mark making, symbols, collage and typography to create her paintings.  The works are built with multiple layers, creating history and texture.  Changing the scale, plane and direction, means there is much to discover in her work - big stories are balanced by quiet, small vignettes that keep the viewers looking for more.

She has collectors Australia wide, internationally and is currently self represented (but looking for the right fit for future gallery representation).  Cat has participated in a number of group exhibitions in Melbourne and can be commissioned to create custom work to suit your home or office.

Cat Dolphin is her real name.

“My paintings explore the mysterious, quirky, and fanciful places that are the strange but somehow familiar possibilities of dreams.  Toppsy turvey worlds.  Stories within stories.  Happy houses, people and creatures that are full of vitality and belong to the landscape in such a way that one becomes the other.  They are about the journey from one place to another, where everything comes together, just like the warp thread of our humanity, where we are all connected and belong.

I am a dreamer and create visions of a beautiful and vibrant world -  the world as I would like to see it.”
